UGH!!!!  Tomorrow is the first optional day back at school!  Don't get me wrong, I am extremely excited to begin teaching art at the brand new elementary school, I just know every year I get completely stressed out with everything that I want to have ready and do.  I literally have been on the computer, mainly pinterest, all day getting awesome ideas about how to set up the art room and the theme this year.  I have decided since we are the Pirates, the theme will be "Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt- an adventure that never ends!"  So now i am forcing myself to get off the computer and go actually get stuff done!!!

Art garden

Our Japanese Art Garden is almost finished thanks to a grant from the Ponte Vedra Education Foundation.
The mosaic we are working on for the wall is based on the famous Japanese art print below!

TGIF

TGIF!!!  This Friday is an 'F' day, which is the last day on our rotation schedule, which means that Monday will begin a new rotation with many classes beginning new projects.  How exciting!  This is the second week of our school-wide Biggest Loser competition for Teachers.  Our team is the 'Postpartum Princesses'!  At my weigh in this morning I was 6 lbs lighter!!

Second grade aboriginal art

Wow. The second grade class today did an outstanding job finishing up their aboriginal animals. They used q-tips and tempera paint to paint around their animals in a pointillist style!

Third grade butterflies

Here are some of the third grade butterflies that were just finished today.  This is a new project that I tried this year that has turned out great!  Our essential question was 'What is Symmetry?'  I got the lesson plan from the 2010 United Art Project guide.   I am allowing early finishers to begin their dragon drawings because Chinese new year is Monday and this is the year of the Dragon!
